The USC School of Engineering, being a premier institution for training of highly-qualified future engineers, has instituted its Community Extension Service (CES) Program in which the OSY in its surrounding areas are some of the target beneficiaries of its wide range of technical- and skills-based courses and hands-on training in order to better educate them and prepare them for proper and decent jobs in business and industry. However, effective as it is, this CES Program has its limitation in terms of capacity and reach due to the demanding nature of training professional engineers, which is the core business of the university and the costly process of implementing CES programs.
Thus, this USAID Opportunity 2.0 Grants Program for Strengthening Education, Employment and Development Support (SEEDS) for Out-of-School Youth is regarded as a very timely and significant intervention program that can dramatically contribute to addressing the growing concern of OSY.
It is in this context that USC School of Engineering is proposing the “STEER ROSY for Better Life” Program, which is all about providing access to “Skills Training for Entrepreneurship and Employment Required for the Recruitment of OSY to achieve a Better Life” for themselves and their families.
It is difficult for me as a youth to develop my capabilities and skills during the pandemic, it is like having a huge gap between me and the development I should’ve already fostered. This program helped me develop and learn the necessary skills to be the youth of my generation. To be literate and adaptive to changes through making the advancements into advantage.
